Flying with lightening

While flying back from Utah I watched a lightening storm outside of my plane window for about 15 minutes.  I couldn't help to open up my camera bag and snap a few images.  I had to have my ISO cranked up since the plane was pretty bumpy  and the sky was dark.  I could have zoomed past the wing of the plane but I wanted to keep it in the shot.

Zion Morning

The past 2 trips to Utah were awesome but no shots of the milky way worth bragging about but that allows me to wake up early in the morning to shoot some cloudy sunrises.

Here's a still from a timelapse I shot of the Checkerboard Mesa in Zion last week.

Zion

I'm lucky to have a project in Salt Lake City.  That allows me to bring my gear out and drive 4+ hours down to the amazing national parks Utah has to offer.  This is my 2nd time in Utah in a month and I'll be going back in 3 weeks (Bryce Canyon).  Last time I was in Arches National Park, this time I went to Zion National Park.  It's really hard figuring out which is better because they both offer very unique views and national formations.  Enough blabbering.  The timelapses came out great from what I've seen so far.  I hope to release a short Utah video in October.

Dropping

Normally it's frowned upon to ride someone else's wave.  I'm assuming these guys are all good friends.

Flight Pattern

It's hard not posting images from Spruce Knob, West VA.  It's the best place to shoot astro photography inside a 7+ hour drive from Washington D.C.  This image is from a timelapse in my upcoming film "Mid-Atlantic in Motion".  It shows 5 planes flying over head.  I'm assuming these took off from Dulles Airport based on flights I've taken.  The light on the lower left corner is of a family fishing at 2am.  The white ball in the middle of the image is Saturn.  I swore a few months ago, I wouldn't show any stills from my film until after it came out.  Well I'm 99.9% complete with the edit.  I'm going out this weekend to see if I'm able to get anything else at a few spots I've been eyeballing for a few weeks.  I fully intend to upload the edit on Vimeo in about 2 weeks.

The END of my Philly posts

Geez, I only spent 8 hours in Philly and I'm posting pics on the blog like I spent a few days there.  This is the LAST image.  Off to Utah again in about 10 days.

Here is Joey thinking "Man, this timelapse BS is really just straight BS.  I never should've come.  I wonder if I can get another cheese steak this late at night.  Damn this is BS"

Philly

Here are some failed timelapse stills from Philly. I haven't been to Philly for a few years and I quickly realized why right when I got into the city.

Cheese Steak Battles

A few days ago I went to Philly to shoot some time-lapse stuff for my upcoming film "Mid-Atlantic in Motion" and I had to stop by the 2 famous cheese steak joints.  I think the sandwich is still in my stomach like a block of concrete at the bottom of the ocean.

Pacers / Garmin

A few months back I was approached by Chris from Pacers with a series of images that were taken once a day for every day of 2012 of him holding a paper sign that stated his running time, date and distance.  He asked me what we could do with all 366 images (leap year).  I sat on the idea for about 2 months and back in May I met him for a few beers and this is what we came up with.

Enjoy

Beer or Pop?

While hiking Bull Run Mountain near my parents house I stumbled across this pile of very old bottles.  I don't know how old exactly but judging by the labels, I wasn't born when these were made.

Blackwater Falls

A few months back I visited a flooded Blackwater Falls in West VA.  I shot a timelapse on this over hanging cliff but I didn't like the light so I most likely won't use it in my upcoming film "Mid-Atlantic in Motion".

Matterhorn at night

Here's what the Matterhorn looked like at night.  It snowed most nights while in Zermatt but the skies opened up for a few minutes.  I don't know what planet that is on the left.  The bright light on the mountain is a gondola station.

I want to go to there

As Tina Fay said in a famous line from "30 Rock".  "I want to go to there".  I started thinking about Zermatt and Switzerland today.  I'd love to visit it during the summer.

For my Birthday I want

Even though it's thunderstorm season here in the East, I hope to head out to Spruceknob one last time to  shoot some Milkway Shots for my upcoming timelapse film "Mid-Atlantic in Motion".
