June Camping Mission

Joey and I headed to our top secret spot on the Shenandoah River yesterday.  Top Secret meaning you will never come here!!

The best piece of firewood EVER found by anyone, EVER!!  It was a natural furnace.

Milky Way rising above the Shenandoah River

After several alcoholic beverages, I told Joey to go stand out in the water looking at the Milky Way for 30 seconds.  The green dots along the tree line are lightning bugs.  Shortly after this shot the clouds covered the sky and it poured for about an hour.

Watching the Sunset through a Natural Window

Yesterday I woke up at 3am to head down to the Northern Neck of VA which is about 90 minutes from my house.  I got the shots I wanted and drove home.

Wind that Energizes Things

Erin and I went to WVA yesterday to shoot these turbines.  It was cool until we got kicked out.  I guess I should really start listening to those NO TRESPASSING signs. Oh well, can't win every time.

Utah at night-FAIL !!!

Shooting Utah's famous Moab area during the day was great, NO complaints here BUT my number 1 thing I wanted to do is to shoot at night.  I arrived down in Moab around 10pm, and if you're a timelapse photographer you know 10pm is GO TIME!!  Well it was over cast minus a few open spots that allowed the milkyway to show it's pretty little self but it's nothing to go crazy over.  These were taken at the "double arch" in Arches National Park.  The Double Arch is famous for being in the opening of the 3rd Indiana Jones movie.  I WILL be going back for a clear sky night!!!

Wild Fires

Why heading back to the airport just outside Salt Lake City, there was a wild fire that was about 100 yards or so.  The cops and fire pro's were on it quickly.

How good is your balance?

I think this thing has been in movies, I'll have to check.  It's name is "Balanced Rock" and is located in Arches National Park.

Where do you think your going?

Saw these dudes getting gnarly on this monster.  It took them about an 90 minutes to reach the top.  I didn't have much time to shoot this prior to heading back north to catch my flight.

The Road to Nowheresville

This past week I had a work meeting in Salt Lake City, UT and I decided to head south afterwards to check out the Arches National Park which is in Moab, UT.

Saw this for about 4 hours

When a NB filter SUCKS!!  Picked up this 2-8 Stop ND filter last week but as you can see, something is oviously wrong here with light on the left and dark on the right and reversed on the top.

In the Pines

A few months back I found this pine forest in northern VA and shot a lot of time lapses there.  This shot won't be used my upcoming timelapse film "Mid-Atlantic in Motion" because there are no clouds to really show time lapsing.  I may go back to see if I can redo the shot.

Spruce Knob- THE END

After processing the images from my trip out to Spruce Knob, I really want to go back!!  I don't really know how possible that will be since I need to edit my timelapse film.  Maybe go back for a 90-100% full moon.

This is a 30 second exposure about an hour after sunset.

I wanted to test out my ISO at 4000.  Not a huge difference from 3200 but I will need to do some tests.

A rare treat for the East Coast

Per a request by a 6'-4" mammoth, I will keep this bog update short and let the photos do the talking.  This weekend I went to Spruce Knob, West VA to shoot the stars and I got unexpected bonuses.  It's extremely rare to get the milky way this good on the east coast, not to mention aurora borealis.  In the images themselves you can't really tell but when you watch the 12 second timelapse you see the green gases move.

More updates coming soon

Enjoy
